For Williamsville native and Buffalo Jr. Sabres alumnus Matt Barbolini, the journey from Western New York rinks to one of professional hockey’s biggest stages in the American Hockey League reached a memorable milestone this season. Barbolini and the Toronto Marlies captured the 2026 Calder Cup Championship, defeating the Chicago Wolves in five games and bringing home the second Calder Cup title in franchise history.

Barbolini’s championship run is another proud chapter in the growing legacy of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres program. Before advancing through the junior and collegiate ranks, Barbolini spent time developing with the Jr. Sabres organization, laying the foundation for a hockey career built on hard work, perseverance, and steady progression. His path later took him through the NAHL and USHL before a successful four-year collegiate career at Miami University (Ohio).

Since turning professional, Barbolini has continued to establish himself with the Toronto Marlies. The 6-foot-2 forward from Williamsville appeared in 62 regular-season games during the 2025-26 campaign, recording 9 goals and 18 assists while providing valuable depth and versatility throughout the lineup.
